Oh well. Was six in a row really too much to ask for? The Mets had their chance last night to extend their winning ways, but I thought the game was over after they failed to score in the first inning. First and Third and no outs and coming up empty against a very game pitcher is not a good omen.
As our well-informed reader gutless pointed out, it was not the Pagan aborted steal of home that was the main killer in that inning, it was David Wright’s awful at bat with Pagan on third and Castillo on second base. [...]

Omar is in BIG BIG Trouble
Seems as if Newsday’s Wallace Matthews got Jeff Wilpon to say exactly where Omar Minaya stands right now, beyond the “Omar is our GM…Period” line he gave to all the other media outlets during yesterday’s news conference. Check it out here.
I would be shocked if the Mets aren’t looking for a new GM in October. What do you guys think? Throw some names out there for who you’d like to see be manning the ship.
On the day following the Rubin-Gate disaster, I think we can actually say that the team’s play on the field was a bigger story than what occurred off of it. Before I get into the game and the positive signs we’ve seen during this modest four-game win streak, I would be remiss to not give an update on Jeff Wilpon’s doings before the game.
Wilpon held court with the media for the second day in a row (a record I presume for the camera shy owner’s son) and attempted to administer a little more damage control. He apologized again for Omar [...]
“So, smile for a few more hours Mets fans. It wont be long til the black cloud that is hovering over this team thickens again. That you can count on”
Recognize this line? It resided as the final sentence in my last post. I felt confident making this decree…I mean this is Jeff Wilpon and Omar Minaya’s Mets we’re talking about here…I just didn’t envision the black cloud to turn into a freaking F5 tornando THE NEXT DAMN DAY!!!!!!!
My goodness. I know I am a bit late to the party hear and I would have loved to come at you a [...]
Yes folks. That is not a mistake in the above headline. The Mets did indeed score 10 runs in a 10-3 smackdown of the Astros last night. It was their largest offensive output since an 11-0 whitewash of St. Louis back on June 24. Amazingly, that wasn’t the most important positive headline garnered from the team’s first victory since Monday night. Jon Niese looked brilliant (7 IP, 4H, R, 3K) and one wonders what the heck took the team so long to take another look at this budding young lefty.
In his final seven starts in Triple-A Buffalo before being called [...]
Anyone else wondering when the Mets are going to be done “investigating” the latest Tony Bernazard incident? If the Mets don’t rid their organization of this cancer sooner rather than later, fans might start to revolt. Aside from the team’s pathetic play as of late, this guys antics have made the Mets the laughing stock of professional sports.
The Wilpons are taking their loyal fans as fools right now and that is one dangerous game to play. It has the chance to backfire in a big way.
On a side note, Newsday is reporting that John Maine suffered a major setback in [...]
I was going to give some some analysis on the vote of confidence Omar Minaya and Jerry Manuel apparently got from Mets ownership, but alas in Met Land, that became old news…and fast. So, just when you thought it couldn’t get any worse….The Mets incarnation of Randy “Macho Man” Savage, A.K.A. VP for player development Tony Bernazard, has stooped to a level never seen before, even in Mets lore. Again credit to Adam Rubin of the Daily News for breaking this story.
A few days ago in this space, I pointed you to a blog entry by Rubin that detailed a [...]
Conflicting reports today about the Roy Halladay to the Mets trade offer and rejection. Si.com, MLB Network, and WFAN staffer Jon Heyman, who is usually at the top of the food chain in breaking baseball news, apparently was duped. Multiple other sources, including the Daily News and Newsday, are saying that no offer was ever made.
Mike Francesa (remember he knows everything folks) a few minutes ago in his opening monologue, said he checked with his Mets sources and they are denying the trade was ever offered to them. Omar Minaya offered no comment during a mid-game press conference when asked [...]
According to Jon Heyman on si.com the Mets have turned down an offer from the Blue Jays for Roy Halladay. I didn’t think the Mets had what it took to get Doc Halladay, but apparently I was mistaken. I can’t believe I am saying his, but thank the lord Omar turned down the offer.
J.P. Riccardi’s asking price was understandably steep: Fernando Martinez, Jon Niese, Bobby Parnell, and minor league SS Ruben Tejada. That would have completely bankrupted the Mets already barren farm system and would not have made sense for a team clearly out of the playoff hunt.
Heyman reports that it [...]
Mets are Rotten to the Core
Not much to say that already hasn’t been said about the Un-Amazins’ getting pummeled down in Atlanta. They stink, they are undermanned, they are nine games out of first, blah, blah, blah…..Season’s over folks, plain and simple.
I wanted to discuss something you may have missed from a few days ago. After the 11-0 drubbing the Mets were handed by the Braves on Friday, Jerry Manuel was asked in his postgame presser about the health of Gary Sheffield, who had limped off the field with an apparent hamstring injury. Manuel relayed the message that “(The training staff) is calling it cramps. … [...]
