After watching the Mets get completely overmatched and outclassed this past weekend by the Yankees, the talk around these parts today focused on the question….what now? There seems to be differing opinions mainly coming from the camps of the paying customer opposed by the actual Met management. From what I’ve seen and heard, the rabid NY media dogs are somewhere in between.
I’m gonna outline the two possible paths available to this morbidly wounded shell of a major league team. Predictably the majority of fans I’ve talked to and heard on the radio waves in the past few days want action from Omar Minaya and crew and they want [...]

To Trade or Not to Trade
I Was Being Delusional
Scratch that line about the Mets having a chance to be in first place in the N.L. East at the All-Star Break. This team is handicapped in so many way right now.
More to come later in a recap of what will likely be the first Subway Series sweep by the Yanks since they took all six games in the 2004 installment of the tilt.
I understand this isn’t the 1985 installment of the Cardinals, but I am pretty shocked at what the Mets pulled off the past four days. Seriously, did you actually stop and think a minute after seeing some of the lineups they sent out there? This lineup scored 11 runs a few nights ago:
Alex Cora, SS
Luis Castillo, 2B
David Wright, 3B
Ryan Church, RF
Fernando Tatis, LF
Fernando Martinez, 3B
Nick Evans, 1B
Brian Schnieder, c
The 1927 Yankees they are not. I will say this though…Most of these guys getting a shot to play right now are hungry. With nothing set in stone and at-bats to be [...]
The Mets beat St. Louis 6-4 last night, but enough of that happy talk. This is the Mets so of course we have much more ominous news to unravel as another star bit the dust in Flushing. Carlos Beltran was the latest, and in my mind the most irreplaceable, player to join the MASH Unit that is the New York Mets. After playing in pain for some time, it was announced at around 5 P.M. that Beltran was headed to the 15-Day DL with a bone bruise in his right knee. An MRI revealed the bruise, which began bothering the Gold-Glove Centerfielder some time ago, had doubled in size [...]
Yes, because I’m a smart-ass Mets fan who must find a negative even on the night of a victory, I offer you my latest presentation, entitled “last night’s 8th inning play-by-play.” Enjoy.
- S. Schumaker in left field
- T. Greene at second
- R. Ankiel in center field
- J. Motte relieved K. McClellan
- L. Castillo singled to third
- F. Martinez hit for B. Stokes
- D. Reyes relieved J. Motte
- F. Martinez bunted to pitcher Reyes. Pitcher Reyes, astounded that J. Manuel would ask the organization’s most heralded prospect to bunt, committed fielding error allowing Martinez to safely reach first base.
- A. Cora [...]
Today Mets fans received some not so great news. Carlos Beltran, after going public with his injury on Sunday, will be heading to the 15 day DL. The Mets also DFA’d power bat Wilson Valdez, optioned Ken Takahashi to Triple A Buffalo, and recalled Elmer Dessens and Pat Misch from the minors. These items are all noteworthy, but what really stands out to me here is “General Manager” Omar Minaya’s decision to replace Carlos Beltran’s roster spot with Fernando Martinez. Minaya may be fine and dandy when it comes to the big trade, but besides that once a year event [...]
Just wanted to throw out a few observations about the Mets lousy weekend before heading off to CitiField:
It really was a lost opportunity for a squad that frankly can’t afford to let too many more golden chances to gain ground on the Phillies slip away. I mean the Phils are reeling, big time with their bullpen in complete chaos. Gaining just one game on a team that gets swept by the woeful Orioles at home is disappointing to say the least.
With Johan and Big Pelf toeing the mound on Sat and yesterday respectively following Fernando Nieve’s gem on Friday, taking [...]
Entering this three game set against the Tampa Bay Rays, the Mets record stands at a mediocre 33-31. I’d point out that the Rays 35-33 record would be a positive forthe Amazins, but the way the Mets played against a terrible Orioles team leads me to believe that the Mets haven’t the room to be taking any form of opposition for granted. In this sleek, stylish preview I’ll take a glance at the pitching match-ups as well as each team’s current state of affairs. 1,2,3: GO!
Game One: Fernando Nieve vs. Andy Sonnanstine
Nieve is still a bit of a mystery to [...]

The link above takes you to That Ball’s Outta Here, an excellent Philadelphia Phillies coverage website. Interviewer Brant Houghton asks me down and dirty questions regarding injuries, the Mets bullpen, and other scandalous affairs (ok, perhaps not scandalous affairs).
Doom and Gloom Update!
Whoa. Alright, so over the past 48 hours a bunch of Mets-related happenings just went down. Really quickly, I’ll give you fine readers the 411 and then let you all know my thoughts in corresponding posts. Ready? Go!
- J.J. Putz entered a close game against the Pittsburgh Pirates, and promptly gave up a billion runs to lose the game for the Mets. Chaos ensued.
- John Maine and Carlos Beltran were out with flu-like symptoms. Beltran returned, homering in his first game back in action.
- Angel Pagan hit the DL; Alex Cora took his spot on the roster.
- Ramon Martinez went [...]
